Skiathos is a beautiful island located in the Aegean Sea, off the coast of Greece. The island is known for its beautiful soft sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, green forests and picturesque villages.

1. Visit the Old Town of Skiathos

The Old Town of Skiathos is a charming area with narrow streets, traditional houses, and a picturesque harbor. It is a great place to explore on foot, and there are many shops, restaurants, and cafes to visit.


2. Visit Lalaria Beach in Skiathos

Skiathos is known for its beautiful, soft sand beaches, and some of the best beaches on the island include Koukounaries Beach, Banana Beach, and Megali Ammos Beach. However, no trip to Skiathos is complete without visiting Lalaria. Getting to Lalaria requires a boat ride which you can pick up at the islands port.



3. Go hiking in the mountains of Skiathos.

Skiathos is a small island, but it has a rugged landscape with mountains, forests, and valleys. You will notice how much more green this island has than other areas of Greece. There are many hiking trails on the island, and some of the best hikes include the trail to the top of Mount Karas, the trail to the Sklithri Forest, and the trail to the Kastro Monastery.


4. Visit the Bourtzi Castle

The Bourtzi Castle is a fortress located on a small island in the harbor of Skiathos, which you can walk to by bridge. The castle was built by the Byzantines in the 14th century, and it offers panoramic views of the town and the sea.

There are a few ways to get to Skiathos from Athens, due to its location you cannot pickup a ferry from Pireaus. Here are your options:

-Fly from Athens

-Drive to Agios Konstantinos (2hrs) and pickup a ferry there.

-Drive to Volos (3.5hrs) and pickup a ferry there.

What is Skiathos known for historically?

Historically, Skiathos was a major center of trade and commerce in the region. The island was also an important hub for shipbuilding and was home to a thriving fishing industry. In more recent times, Skiathos has become a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over the world to its sandy beaches and picturesque villages.
